Unlikely. One of the reasons orchids have declined so much in the UK is that so much of the nutrient poor fields, where they were found (previously used as hay meadows), were 'improved' after the 2nd World War with fertilisers.
Thank you for the ident Craig. I always think it's a shame when these things are 'Common', when they are so beautiful. This was growing in a country lane so could the vigour have come from maybe fertilizer runoff from a nearby field under cultivation?
Looks like a lovely robust specimen. Maybe a bit of hybrid vigor in there.
