Description:

Praying mantis found on back deck is mostly green with some brown in its wings and an orangish-brown thorax. Approximately five inches long.

Habitat:

The praying mantis likes to live in areas that are camouflaged. The insect came to the United States in 1899, formerly living in Africa, Europe, and Asia.(Encyclopedia of Life, 2014)

Notes:

This picture of a praying mantis was taken from the deck in my backyard. The bug was on the sliding glass door, and I moved it to the plant. I believe the scientific name of this bug is Mantis religiosa.
