Description:
According to the IUCNredlist, the Black-Necked Stork is listed as Near Threatened. This is a female Black-necked Stork distinguished by the yellow eye, the only feature of sexual dimorphism. "With black and white body plumage, glossy dark green and purple neck and massive black bill, it is easily identified from all other Australian birds. The legs are long and coral-red in colour." Habitat:
Hunting for a feed at the Mankajarra wetlands.
Notes:
This was the only Black-necked Stork around and also the only species of stork in Australia. I have never seen more than one adult at a time. The only time I saw more than one was when I saw two juveniles! (see spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1820176002 for one of them). This female was roaming up and down the wetlands and her path generally included ducks taking off and landing or other birds shuffling around.
