Field Notes

Description:

Psychidae; Lepidoscia sp. This is a Bagworm Moth and, despite having posted several spottings of moths from the family Psychidae, I have never been able to identify any of them beyond the family name, until today. This is the first time that I have been able to match my spotting to a picture of a Bagworm shown in Philippine Lepidoptera's website. When I checked the Genus Lepidoscia in Wikipedia, the distribution is stated as "found primarily in Australia and New Zealand". Of course, the key word is "primarily", in that (by implication) the Wiki article is saying that it does exist in other locations . For me, the fact that Philippine Lepidoptera shows one is proof positive of the distribution of Lepidoscia here.

Habitat:

This Lepidoscia sp. was spotted in our front yard on a sapling Pomelo (Citrus maxima) locally known in the Philippines as Suha.
