Description:

I didn't even have the chance to zoom in. One photo and it flew away. It is so cute. I have seen it before in great macro on Project Noah, but can't remember what this is called. Thanks for your help. (6.35 - 10 mm)

Habitat:

Meadow in Poconos

is this the same one? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7546052
I don't think I have any of this species posted on here. Yes, many of the syrphids, particularly in the Subfamily Syrphinae are very tiny!
Haha that's more like it, as what SmallWonders think it is :-)
Thanks Small Wonders. Don't you have a macro of this insect? I was looking in your photos but couldn't find it. I believe it was 1/4 inch. I could barely see it.
Hi Carol, this is a male Syrphid fly - Sphaerophoria sp.
Thanks so much! Always be prepared to take a photo of a 1/4 inch "thing". HA!
wait for another suggestion, i'm not too certain about this. your spotting seems to have larger rounded eyes
Thanks so much! Looks like it has a crown on its head. I would have loved to get a better shot. :(
