Field Notes

Description:

Brown, slightly mottled/speckled frog with a distinctive dark eye mask and light stripe above the upper lip.

Notes:

These hardy woodland frogs can survive at remarkably high latitudes thanks to their ability to produce a kind of "anitfreeze" in their blood. This allows 65% of their bodies to freeze over the winter without cellular damage!
