Description:

Huge bug with antennae, 2 beady eyes, 6 legs, black and yellow striped bulb, looks like a cross between a wasp and an ant except much bigger

Habitat:

Found in an urban area on a sidewalk at around 8pm

I agree. They're known as Jerusalem Crickets and are found in Western USA and Mexico.
