Field Notes

Description:

Family: Nymphalidae. Subfamily: Danainae. A milkweed butterfly. Male. 2 scent gland on open wings. Wingspan: Large up to 4 1/2 inches (11.43 cm). Orange with black veins and border with white and orange spots. Feeding on white asters.

Habitat:

Meadow with abundant goldenrod and asters and a few milkweed plants.

Notes:

Photographed 14 Monarchs about half male and half female.
