Field Notes

Description:

Small kingfisher, turquoise head (with spots), wings and back; white throat; buff chest, belly and "ear"; long, sharp beak.

Notes:

The COMMON KINGFISHER is not so common in Singapore anymore. A fishing specialist, this one sat on the stump and periodically stretched and scrunched his neck, possibly trying to swallow a fish.

Also known as Eurasian Kingfisher or River Kingfisher.
