Field Notes

Description:

An extremely vigorous scrambling fern, which is a very important plant in the succession of forest ecosystems in its native range. It is very quick to colonise disturbed soils in semi-shade and its roots have a fantastic ability to bind loose soils like the degraded quartz here in the Cameron Highlands, where deforestation is causing terrible and sometimes devastating landslides. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378112705007474

Habitat:

Smothering roadside banks and forest edge cuttings everywhere.

Notes:

I tweaked the colour a little in the first photo, to make the beautiful habit of the new fronds unfurling a bit clearer.
