Description:

Saw this lizard moving about in the sand during my trip to the sand dunes. Has a great camouflage, can't deny that. I don't know its scientific or common names, though.

Habitat:

Desert (found only in Rajasthan, India)

@SandraH - Looks like a perfect ID. The lizard matches perfectly with the description in the link. Seems like you had to spend a big chunk of time searching for this guy... Thanks for the link and ID...!

Ok, there is a reason why he is hard to classify. You have to have a good book with good photos or drawings. From what I found around the net he appears most likely to be Bufoniceps laungwalaensis. The genus (Bufoniceps) contains a single species and it looks like your guy here. Either that or he is a deformed other agamid :) like skinny-tailed uromastyx or round-headed gecko :)))) Photos of what is purported to be Bufoniceps can be seen here: http://reptile-database.reptarium.cz/species?genus=Bufoniceps&species=laungwalaensis.

Akshat just can't get attention to this lizard in first look due to it's color and color of sand even though nicely spotted by you, Good work.

wow - very unusual! I can't seem to fit that weird head it has anywere. How big was it by the way?
