Field Notes

Description:

Amphibious fish with huge eyes on the top of its head. Fins adapted for walking with the help of a strong tail. Black line that runs along the side of the body. Head light brown with spots. Body mostly grey.

Notes:

A strong swimmer, this GIANT MUDSKIPPER was crossing to and fro the Canal at Pasir Ris Farmway 3, Singapore, before it clambered with ease up the embankment. Mudskippers can breathe through their skin and their mouths in addition to their gills, affording them an amphibious lifestyle.
