Field Notes

Description:

Another Ridley female laying her eggs on South Padre Island. The pictures show the process of her digging out a nest cavity, laying her eggs, covering it back over, and returning to the ocean alongside the path she used to come ashore. The opening behind her as she lays her eggs was dug out by a wildlife technician in order to see the eggs being dropped. Normally this would not be visible.

Habitat:

Gulf of Mexico beach at the southern tip of Texas
