I found these seeds scattered on the ground in an area that had been recently cleared and could'nt find any plants nearby that would have dispersed them

Just read the Wiki link. Absolutely fascinating! Will have to go back and check out the area again. Don't recall seeing a plant with these flowers anywhere. Thank you Sachin
known as Gunja in Sanskrit, these are the wonderful seeds earlier it was used to generally measure gold in India http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abrus_precatorius
