Field Notes

Description:

These are a really interesting little mushroom, pretty small... the largest was probably only an inch from top to bottom of the cap. Covering the cap is a fuzzy, soft, hair like stuff that makes it nice to the touch. Black gills and shaggy stem.

Habitat:

Clay soil, under hardwood and conifer mix

Notes:

Though of an inky cap right off the bat... but they don't appear to be decomposing at the edges like the inky caps do.

I still think it's a Coprinus--there are many, and they may auto-deliquesce at different rates. If it's got black gills (and black spore print) there really isn't any alternative.
