Description:

Slightly sprawling forb w/ opposite, entire leaves and pairs of strange, fleshy, maroon spiky structures (fruiting bodies?) protruding at the leaf axils all along the stem. Pic taken in

Habitat:

Remnant wet mesic sand prairie in the Chicago Lake Plain (Calumet region), dominated by blue-joint grass, prairie cord grass, rushes and sedges, water plantain, swamp milkweed, blue-fruited dogwood, Spirea alba. (And purple loosestrife.)
