Garter Snake

There were 3 garters in this shot, 2 males and 1 female (the one about to shed her skin). Due to the lateness of the year I was surprised to see that 2 of them were mating ~ their tails were dangling down into the bush and intertwined. I found out that the female can delay conception over the winter until spring. Amazing!
