Description:

The flowers (also called catkins) are all opening up now, though the leaves have yet to grow. In the last photo (sorry for the quality) you can see the "cones" hanging on from last year. I believe the long catkins are the male flowers and the short, reddish ones are female.

Habitat:

In a poorly drained area near a swamp
