Field Notes

Description:

MALE: Green head, brown breast, gray belly, brown wings and back, yellow beak.
FEMALE: Brown.

Habitat:

Coastline, ponds, rivers, and lakes.

Notes:

I witnessed a group of males all mating with same female. I felt bad because they were basically drowning her. She had lost all of the oil in her feathers and was soaked. She has excessive feather loss. I counted 20 individual males that copulated her. I also came into contact with a female I named Hen, and her two offspring I named Squeakers and Quackers. Quackers, was attacked by a muskrat at 4 weeks old. I saved him and called the animal control. He was rehabilitated and released.
