Field Notes

Description:

Purple velvet caps of approximately 3" across and stipes between 3 and 4". Grow together in a small group or more often single.

Habitat:

Pacific temperate rain forest of Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock, and Bigleaf Maple with an undergrowth of Sword Fern, Oregon Grape, and Salal.

Notes:

Found along the Reservoir Trail on the east side of Hayward Lake.

Thank you. My book says they are edible with quite pleasant flavor but I have not tried them.
Beautiful! But don't they look like they have been dyed? the sunshine really brings out the beauty.
