Yes I agree. It's just an example of how close you can get but still have a long way to go with no matching reference or description of critical features. There are also different cameras and lighting in the mix.
Hmmm... similar, but mine doesn't have red eyes, only black and mine seems have a lot more blue on it. So Maybe I shouldn't name this one? Thanks for taking the time to help me.
Compare to this Thai specimen for example (Tachinini tribe) http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=55818&pid=238290
Thanks Mark for your helpful suggestion. I have done that. I had wondered about the reference and had tried to find it but had no luck. Thanks again.
Hi TLT.. the scientific names need to be in the standard binomial format... 'genus species'. In this case it would be simply 'Dexia sp.' however I am far from convinced of that ID - especially as Lenny hasn't bothered to support it with a reference link. I think you are safer to make the common name 'Tachinid fly' only at this stage and leave the scientific name blank. Thanks.
Nice fly! I would guess Tachinidae on first glance but let's hope a fly expert sees it.
