Description:

dark wading bird with long legs and decurved bill; breeding adults chestnut with green and purple gloss; grey facial skin; pale blue lines bordering the front part of face; brown eyes and bill; grey legs with red knee joints. Juveniles are more blackish all over with light green gloss.

Shallow freshwater bodies, with floating vegetation; marshy areas
