Locust Borer

This black and yellow insect is approximately 20 mm in length. Adults are found in early fall in fields that contain goldenrod. They feed on pollen. Eggs are laid in Black Locust trees in the fall where the larva hibernates under the bark. In the spring the larva tunnels into the tree often damaging, and sometimes killing, the locust trees. Locust Borers pupate in August and emerge in early September.
