Field Notes

Habitat:

Picture shown is a home or termite nests. This species of termites build their houses and the high can reach 2-3 M. Termite house shown in this picture, can be encountered in the forest in Merauke, Papua, Indonesia.

Not all places in Merauke can we meet the type of termites that build a house as shown on this spoting. These termites live and make their nests and overgrown grassy areas with a canopy of trees that are not meeting (open).

Notes:

Currently the main threat to this species of termites is the conversion of forests into plantations, industrial plantations and settlements. Three threats mentioned are the main threat for the continuity of termite populations in question.
