Description:

Large plant about 4ft tall with long violet leaves that have pointed ends.

Habitat:

Spotted in backyard in Escondido, California.

Species ID Suggestions

This is an agave. Possibly in the Furcraea genus of succulent plants belonging to the family Asparagaceae subfamily Agavoideae. See Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furcraea. It might be in the other agave family -- Agave sp.
