its a checkered Keelback (Xenochrophis piscator). Quite common around here as well.
Thanks moralcoral. I was unable to decide probably because the angle makes the eyes look too small. But the species does like water apparently...You may, I mean I may, be right ;-)
its a small snake though, how big was this one?
Think you could be right if you take a look at this site http://wapedia.mobi/en/Amphiesma_stolatum it has some nice close ups of the head and can see the same numbered of sheilds on the head and the same shapes and sizes, the eyes are lined up the same as these shields also!
The pattern looks a bit like Amphiesma stolatum but not sure (about the head/eyes)...
