Field Notes

Description:

Small finch with brown-streaked gray upperparts, boldly streaked flanks and undertail. Red cap and black chin. The bill is olive brown with fine black tip.
Hundreds showed up on Chebeague and our feeders and I had never noticed them before. They stayed around for about a month I think.

Wow, that's a real swarm of redpolls! They visit feeders here in Western Massachusetts every winter, but never in great numbers.
We had 100s of them on the island and I never remember seeing them before, at least not in the numbers we had last year. I will be watching for their return in January and February
Sweet bird! We used to get flocks of lesser redpolls visit the feeders in England!
Nice birds with 'TILAK' (In Hinduism, the tilak is a mark worn on the forehead)
