Field Notes

Description:

An Earwig insect - Dermaptera.
This species is one of the most beautiful and largest species I have ever seen in Malaysia.
It's length is about 13mm.
As you can see that this insect has lost one forcep / pincer.
It is black in colour with forceps and upper parts of the legs colored dark red.
I cannot determine whether this species can fly or not because it did not fly .
It is hard to see earwigs' wings as they will fold it between their abdomen and thorax.
I'm not sure whether this is a male or a female because it's forceps or pincers are long but slender.
There are 3 red round things on it's thorax, my photographs aren't clear enough to show whether they are parasitic mites or just part of the earwig's body.

Habitat:

Forest of Kinabalu National Park, Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia.

Notes:

This species is one of the most beautiful and largest species I have ever seen in Malaysia.
Unfortunately, I didn't managed to take a good photograph of it because it keeps on running and won't stop.
>>>Map accuracy : 400m diameter.
