Thank you, S Frazier!! It looks like the scapula of the deer. There were no cattle out in that area, but there are deer ,bears ,panthers. I really appreciate you looking this up. Thank you!!
I too have been looking at this today. Not having the bones at hand, the scapula (shoulder blade) looks like a deer's (see a partial deer skeleton here http://www.eidnesfurs.com/images/disk1/mvc-018s.jpg ) so I'm guessing it's probably a white-tailed deer since Florida only has 4 species from the Artiodactyla group (3 deer species and wild boar, not counting domestic cattle; the latter two with more robust scapulae) and two of the deer are introduced but not in the area of the spotting. I have not found a good clear large-size picture of deer scapula except for this http://cyborgsuzystock.deviantart.com/art/bones-14-deer-scapula-55700015 which isn't really a science site, but there must be one out there!
No, Emma. I cant read that type of Fiction. I have always been a Non fiction reader of technology and dictionary's and science!! Im a real geek!! :)
But upon seeing the bones, I stopped to show the kids the different bones and how they were attached to each other ect, as a science type exhibit. Well then, I noticed the way the bones were cut in the femur bone section, not cut by jags but more of a clean cut!! Sorta creepy, Right? I have other bone pictures I will post, when I get some time off from school. I also have taken photos of bones at the Smithsonian Museum In DC. Anyways, I may not go back there to that area of the woods or if I do I will be well armed. Lol!!
A deer? Its looks about 50 to 70 pounds. And at another time I found Florida Panther footprints. We left shortly after that, because we did not to be the next meal for panthers or bears!! Lol
Wow fascinating! Really difficult to say. If you go the the signs of wildlife mission, there are spottings on deer and coyote. That might help you to get an idea of the animal.
i think it could be a small animal like a bob cat etc.
