Spotted laying on pool cover in backyard in Escondido, California

My mom took these pics for me with her camera.

It could be considering the shape, size, and location, but I didn't know the inside could be red. Thanks Gordon for the suggestion, it looks like you got it.
Could it be a yucca seedpod? Google image "yucca seedpod" and see what you think.
I've never seen anything like this. My only guess is that it came from some species of palm tree. Does anyone else have an idea?
