These dogs are part of ancient desert race of Peru. They have found remains dating back to 300 A.D. They are believed to be used medicinally because they have a corporal body temperature 3 degrees higher than humans. They may have been used to alleviate rhumatism or other muscular difficulties that could be solved by having the dog "rest" on the affected area.

Habitat:

Coastal desert

strange looking indeed.. i'm kind of scared with a dog that would look something like this..
What a strange little guy. Interesting!
Very similar to the Xoloitzcuintle of Mexico. Apparently there used to be a larger version of the Xolo, that was keep for it's meat.
They are pets. Should I make the change from pet to mammal?
I like these doggies too..and I am sure they love their job of sitting on someone for a while and sleep :-) I think is interesting to show it not as pet because not many people knows this dog breed.
Now that you mention it marta it does seem funny. I think this race might have been voted as the ugliest of all of them. However, I find them quite interesting and cute. Because of their antiguity the almost don't fall into the pet category.
Wow! is a dog pillow! like these thermic pillows that one uses for back or neck pain. Just put the dog on the affected area for a while..LOL! (I´m sure it works, seriously :-)
