Range: Eastern and central US to the Rockies (2) and Canada from Nova Scotia to Alberta (BugGuide).

Habitat:

Larvae feed on leaves of many trees and shrubs but particularly members of the rose family such as apple, cherry, and crabapple (BugGuide).

Notes:

Female moths lay their eggs in a mass on a twig where they will overwinter. Eggs hatch in spring. Caterpillars construct a tent of webbing in which they feed and grow. Eventually the larvae disburse and pupate.
