I've never heard of the tri-colored heron
I think Great Blue Heron is correct too. The size of the bird (compared to the goose in the second photo) , and location of the spotting (British Columbia) seem to preclude tri-colored heron. Nice photos!
The black band on the head makes it a Great Blue Heron i think.
