Field Notes

Description:

The Purple Heron is the most colourful large heron found in Singapore, with a distinctive snake-like neck which is usually held in a prominent kink. Its colourful plumage actually provides excellent camouflage among the reeds.

Habitat:

This is a migratory bird but is a common resident and winter visitor throughout the island, as well as North and South offshore islands.

Notes:

Spotted today in deep mangrove. This Heron was standing and resting on a log that was floating in the water. I assume he was waiting for the tide to go out so that he could find food.
