Description:

Brilliant red dragonfly in garden (non-aquatic environment). Occurs from mainland Asia to NG where it is widespread and often abundant at standing, unshaded waters. Neurothemis ramburii papuensis is the subspecies recorded for Papua on http://www.papua-insects.nl/insect%20orders/Odonata/Anisoptera/Anisopte…

Habitat:

Spotted in large semi-urban yard/garden next to a disturbed remnant patch of forest.

Notes:

This spotting photograph has been ID'ed through consultation with a Papua dragonfly expert. Same species as previous spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7289807

Thanks everyone! Atul thanks. I'm pretty sure it is Neurothemis sp. but Neurothemis fluctuans does not occur in New Guinea. It's probably either N. ramburii or stigmatizans.
