Beautiful spotting (I know it's been around for a while but I just found it)! Your rescued Mantid is a Snake Mantid. The shape of the body, coloration (yellow stripe down the middle of the thorax and along the edge of the wings) and the eyes with the red line through it match. Garden Mantis have a different body shape: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Orthodera_ministralis.jpg The thorax flares out. Coloration is slightly different as well.
