Field Notes

Description:

Gull-billed Tern is a medium-sized tern with broader wings and a thicker bill than most other terns.It is stocky, with wide wings. Stout black bill. Tail short and notched.The summer adult has grey upperparts, white underparts, a black cap, strong black bill and black legs.In winter, the cap is lost, and there is a dark patch through the eye.

Habitat:

Found near salt water bodies ,back waters....costal region.

Notes:

Seen here is a winter form of a non breeding adult.They pick up insects from mid air in their flight or just above the water surface

Thanks Laura , if you see the last pic ,the tern had made an acute dive on the river ,it was so fast i couldnt capture it after that point. Arctic terns are beautiful birds too!!
Fantastic Atul! I saw some Arctic terns on my trip this summer, but couldn't get any clear shots of them at all. What wonderfully clear pictures these are! Terns are so acrobatic, and I think you really captured that! Nice
