Field Notes

Description:

Columbidae; Geopelia striata (Linnaeus, 1766). This small Dove seems to be a placid, docile sort of creature and I am always happy to see it when it visits our backyard. However, today it stayed rather longer than usual and I was worried that our regular daily visitor, a Kingfisher would arrive and find the Dove sitting on its favourite perch. Kingfishers are neither placid nor docile. In fact, they tend to be downright aggressive, but everything worked out very well. The Dove flew off and the Kingfisher did not arrive until much later. "All's well that ends well..." I can't quite remember who said that :-)

Habitat:

This little Dove was spotted sitting on the fence around our backyard vegetable plot.
