Description:

One month into taking macro photos when I came upon this strange very small 1/4 - 1/2 inch (6.35 - 12.7 mm) Is this a fruit fly? Yes, a fruit fly.

Habitat:

Meadow in the Poconos.

Fruit Fly! I found a photo almost identical to mine. Thanks for your help with the guide. that confirms it.
I have to research it more. It does look like a Picture-winged fly. It was 1/2 inch. Fruit fly/picture winged fly. Mystery!
Ah - found it (I'm pretty sure): http://bugguide.net/node/view/68612/bgimage Good call on fruit fly - I would have thought Picture-winged fly, but I didn't find it there.
This was one of the stranger insects in our meadow and I have over 150 different insects and spiders. Any ideas? Only about 1/2 inch.
