Field Notes

Description:

Small butterfly with black wings and black body. Red stripes towards ends of wings, parallel to the body. White stripes on lower wings, about a 150 degree angle back from the head. The body and head had white markings on it, and the body also had a few small red markings.

Habitat:

Somewhere around halfway down Mombacho Volcano this, and many other types of butterflies, were variously settling on cultivated flowers outside of a coffee shop. The area is cloudy, often rainy, but at an elevation that was still fairly warm.
