Field Notes

Description:

A large cockatoo with a black bill. Males are black with clear scarlet panels in their tail, while females have a paler bill, yellow spots on their head, neck and and wings. Females also have barred orange-yellow breast-feathers.

Habitat:

Kimberley Savannah water trough Myall's Bore
Endemic to mainland Australia, with five subspecies occurring in eight discrete populations.

Notes:

Very excited to manage a good shot of these beauties on Threatened Species Day in Australia.

Thanks Neil and Vinny. I was very happy to get a couple of shots. I went to the trough to collect macroinvertebrates for my tanks at school and they flew in.
