Baja California Rock Squirrel
Otospermophilus atricapillus
31.7231, -116.724
Field Notes
Description:
One of the longer squirrels I've seen. He almost slithered around the rocks sporting light-greyish shoulders, and a very brown and black peppered rest of his body and tail.
Habitat:
This squirrel seems to live on the rocks at the tourist attraction known as La Bufadora ("The blowhole") - apparently one of only two saltwater geysers in the world. It receives way more tourists than it should, but that keeps plenty of people walking by just above these rocks, dropping plenty of food for this squirrel to pick through.
