Ashish, Atul.. Thank you... I for now will let it stay as 'Merops orientalis' as we are not very sure about the sub-species.. @ Atul I do refer Salim Ali and Grimmet as illustration is best in grimskip and Salim Ali also give a bit of information about each species that the book deals with which the others dont. @ Ashish- Thanks for your suggestion will check out for the book you have referred as well..
May be Ashish !!
welcome Anjali as suggested You should go in for the Krys Kazmierczak book its awesome !! Salim Ali's book is not out dated but is still THE book for Birdwatchers to possess., but you should have a few other references too.
Atul...I have checked all plumages... Merops orientalis orientalis does not have such big Bluish patch on throat. May be its one of Merops orientalis ceylonicus which had Blue throat...
@ Atul, Thank you... I knew about the sub species part but was confused with the location bit as rightly said plumage is bound to change was not very sure about the sub-species found here..
Welcome..!! http://www.strandbookstall.com/ContactUs.aspx
Basically beludschicus, orientalis and ferrugeiceps are only subspecies and are differentiated on the location and slight variations in the plumage . the plumage is bound to change with the location of the specie as the climatic conditions and the food availablity varies . your Spotting Anjali Is very much in the specie orientalis. the ferrugeiceps is found in northeastern India http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bee-eater

Atul its available at Strand Book stall in Fort, Mumbai city.
Anjali now Salim Ali's book is out dated. I use Krys Kazmierczak's book. Referred by my 3 Biologist friends. Following web site based on his observations and his followers. Great encyclopedia of Birds in Indian sub-continent. http://orientalbirdimages.org/photographers.php?action=birder&Birder_ID=102
which bird guide do you refer to Ashish
Hi Ashish, Thanks for the suggestion but, can you help me on how you differentiate between Asian beludschicus, orientalis and ferrugeiceps. As, Salim Ali's field on Indian Birds only suggests the name as 'Merops orientalis'.
My Bird Guide plate shows exact colour placing in Bird plumage as per race - Green Bee-eater ferrugeiceps.
lovely pic!!!
