Field Notes

Description:

Dark coloration, with creamy, almost yellow large claw on males used for fighting and attracting females. Females have no large claw.

Habitat:

Salt marshes, and reed beds.

Notes:

Studying the Barnagat Bay with The Sedge Island Summer group of 2010.

Thanks! I tried to get a shot a male and female on my hand to show the difference, but they are just so fast, and it kept running off my hand! Im 14 and at the time i was just turning 13, but i was in a biology program in the Barnagat Bay, in NJ. I saw a lot interesting things there...check out the baby turtle on my page. I just started project noah as few weeks ago, so now i have to go through like 10,000 pics i took over the years of the animals. So, im going to have a lot of spotting that i spotted from a few years ago.
Nice shot! Interesting to see the difference in size between the claws.
