Field Notes

Description:

Small red crab with black spots on his shell, with a body just a few centimeters across and pincers of about equal size. Was very quick and easy to anger.

Habitat:

San Juan del Sur is a beach town in Nicaragua. This crab was found at least a kilometer from the shore and only a few meters from a freshwater stream. More importantly, this crab was first spotted walking across my bed in a single room apartment attached to a house that sits above the stream.
The air is usually quite hot and muggy, plenty of rain in the area.
