Description:

A bird of southern swamps, the Anhinga is known as the Water-Turkey also called a snake bird and It will perch for long periods with its wings spread to allow the drying process.The Anhinga dives from the surface of the water and swims slowly underwater hunting for fish. The diet consists of many small- to medium-sized wetland fishes, with very small amounts of crustaceans and invertebrates. Anhinga will sometimes migrate towards the equator during winter. The Anhinga is protected in the US under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918
