Found an ID, finally. A flower beetle is a broad term. According to EOL this is a Tenebrionoidea (Darkling beetle) and related to this well known one. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8856359

Thankyou stephenspragg. I suspected its a leaf beetle from chrysomelidae but I'm on a steep learning curve. I suspect it is a native but how do you know? This lilly beetle is rather more glossy than my spotting. Thank you AshishNimkar. This link to Tassie beetles looks promising. Ive got somewhere to look now - thanks guys.

This is the closest insect I could find that matches yours. Do not know whether this insect is meant to be distributed in Australia.
