Description:
Male band-winged grasshoppers, and sometimes females, produce sound in flight (crepitation). The snapping, crackling, or buzzing sound is made by rubbing the under surface of the forewings against the veins of the hind wings.

Notes:
I hear this grasshopper before I spotted it. It was camouflaged so well on the gravel walkway.
