Field Notes

Description:

Male Syrphus vitripennis or Syrphus ribesii. It is very difficult to distinguish between these two species macroscopically, especially males one. Males Syrphus ribesii are extremely similar to S. vitripennis, differing only in having some black hairs present on the hind femur and in having the second basal cell of the wing entirely covered by microtrichia.

Habitat:

Mountain meadow.
