Field Notes

Description:

Huge swiss cheese-like mushroom. Over 6-7 inches long, last photo is attached to the underneath part of the strange huge mushroom attached to a dead Birch Tree.

Habitat:

Woodlands of the Poconos

Notes:

#3 Photo is freaking me out. A strange "thing" popping its head out now that I am away from its home. Too unclear in zoom! I had my head practically in the mushroom taking photos.

Species ID Suggestions

Birch polypore

Piptoporus betulinus
